Widening Participation and Spreading Excellence actions under Horizon Europe, contribute to building research and innovation capacity for countries lagging behind. Apply for the latest calls for proposals on Teaming for Excellence and the European Excellence initiative with a deadline of the 12 April. Similarly, check out the Hop-on Facility call where applicants must submit a proposal by the 28 September. For specific details please refer to the work programme.

The European Commission organised an Info Day in December to inform potential applicants about the new topics included in the WIDERA work programme for 2023-2024 including new calls for proposals on citizen science, open research and gender in research and innovation. A public consultation on the past, present and future of the EU’s research programmes

Stakeholders can provide information on the performance of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, and identify priorities for the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2025-2027. The survey is available in English, French, and German; answers can be provided in any EU language.

New face masks with sensors! Pioneering stretchable and textile electronics in Serbia & Europe

The STRENTEX project has designed a new face mask with sensors that assess lung capacity and body temperature, key variables in the detection of preliminary Covid-19 symptoms. Building on a network of international partners as well as SMEs, the project also plans to contribute to the development of a range of stretchable and textile electronics from baby slings to blankets. The wider aim of the project is to narrow the innovation divide between Serbia and Europe by creating a point of excellence at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad (FTN), Vojvodina, Serbia, in conjunction with the goals of the Horizon Europe Widening programme.

Greece, Malta & France strengthen innovation ecosystems in the Mediterranean food value chain

The project focuses on the production of nutritious food products and the optimization of food industrial side-streams. It is a cross-border collaboration between Greece, Malta and France on a common strategy on strengthening the Mediterranean food added-value chains. The project is one of the 10 new Excellence Hubs addressing Europe’s innovation divide via the Horizon Europe Widening programme. These hubs bring together academia, business, regional governments and societal actors.

Slovenia sets course for fire-safe sustainable buildings

The FRISSBE project implements new practices in fire resilient construction materials and technologies at the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute, ZAG. This is done by attracting and maintaining high quality human resources under the direction of the ERA Chair holder. The project will lead to lasting, sustainable structural changes, have regional impacts in terms of research, education, and engineering at ZAG and spread excellence in innovation throughout the EU region.
