Hours of instruction:

Weekly: five hours of lectures (5+0+0)

Goals:

The course is designed to enable students to understand the fundamental aspects of free radicals (reactive species) and antioxidative chemistry, biochemistry and biology through the study of the balance between oxidation and reduction (redox) reactions/processes in the body.

Outcome:

At the end of the course, students will be able to: describe (bio)chemistry of free radicals (reactive species), refer to free radicals caused damage/modification of macromolecules and the effects of free radicals on the biochemical processes in the body, and the basic mechanisms of protection of the cell/organism from the harmful effects of free radicals.
