Hours of instruction:

Weekly: four hours of lectures + one hour of exercises (4+1+0)

Goals:

The goal of this course is to provide basic theoretical and practical knowledge of the structure and reactivity of organic compounds, including more complex synthetic and natural organic compounds.

Outcome:

After they have successfully completed the course, students should be able to:

  • understand physical, structural and stereochemical properties of organic compounds,
  • name organic compounds according to the IUPAC nomenclature and understand the basic principles of naming and the principles of stereochemistry of natural compounds and more complex synthetic organic compounds,
  • understand the characteristic transformations of functional groups and the mechanisms of organic reactions of mono- and polyfunctional compounds,
  • understand transformations in biological systems,
  • independently perform isolation, purification, synthesis and determination of some simple and more complex organic compounds.

Teaching methods:

Lectures, practical classes.
