The goal of this course is to help students acquire the knowledge of mathematics they will need in order to understand the content of other courses which they will have during their further studies.

Lectures:

Syllabus:

  1. Linear algebra - Matrices. Addition, scalar multiplication and multiplication of matrices. Determinants. Inverse matrix. Linear equation systems. Substitution method and Gauss’ method. Matrix method for solving systems of equations. Cramer’s rule.
  2. Analytic geometry - Vectors. Addition, subtraction and scalar multiplication. Scalar, vector and mixed product of vectors. Equations of lines, planes and spheres in space.
  3. Multivariable functions - Definition and basic properties. Partial derivatives and differentials. Local, conditional and absolute extremes of multivariable functions.
  4. Numerical methods - Newton's interpolation polynomial. The method of least squares. Approximate solution of equations.
